License Revocation Defense

Sugar Land DWI Defense Attorneys – (713) 234-6065

Your ability to drive in Texas is not a right, it is a privilege. The notable difference is a privilege can be removed without the intervention or punishment of the criminal justice system. The Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS) can permit the Texas Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV) to revoke your license as a civil administrative penalty.

Your license can be revoked for up to two years if any of the following situations occur:

  • You have no car insurance and get into a car accident that causes serious injury or property damage.
  • You have been evaluated by a medical professional who deemed you unfit to drive.
  • You are cited for multiple traffic violations within a certain period of time.
  • You are convicted of driving while intoxicated (DWI).

Challenging the revocation of your driver’s license can be difficult, but it is not impossible. By teaming up with Khawaja Law Firm and our Sugar Land criminal defense lawyers, you can give yourself all the insight and legal abilities you need for your case. With more than 25 years of collective legal experience under our belts, our law firm should be your first choice in license defense at your ALR hearing.

Reinstating Your Driver’s License After Revocation

When a driver’s license revocation ends, you will not get it returned automatically. Instead, you must first complete all criminal sentencing requirements and civil administration penalties as established by the DPS. After this is completed, you will have the chance to ask to reinstate your license.

To reinstate your driver’s license, you will need:

  • Your driver’s license identification number
  • Personal information about yourself, including your Social Security number
  • $125 (approximate) worth of payment for reinstatement fees
  • Proof of Financial Responsibility Insurance (SR-22 Certificate)

Depending on the details of the circumstances that led to the revocation, you may need to reprove your abilities to responsibly drive. For example, you might need to complete a court-ordered DWI education program, which can include additional costs and fees.
